Hi, I come from Perth, Western Australia. At university I majored in English and Philosophy because I love to read, write and question ideas about the world. I’m always keeping up-to-date with what’s happening globally through Twitter and in my free time I like to write funny or thought-provoking short stories. Learning English is a great way to connect with people from all over the world. My own experiences travelling have shown me the power that English has. I’ve seen Japanese people speaking to Germans in English, Russians speaking to French people in English, Brazilians speaking to Iranians in English, and the list goes on. The fact that English connects such a wide variety of people together is the main reason I’m excited to be an English teacher……and the lessons can be really fun too. So, hopefully I’ll see you walking my classroom soon!
My name is Rebecca and I am from the United States. I am a certified secondary English literature teacher and have taught students from pre-school age to adult. The first classes I ever taught were in sewing, which is one of my hobbies, along with many other arts and crafts. I came to Taiwan to gain teaching experience and to learn about about Taiwanese culture. I enjoy incorporating literature, art, music, films, current events, and personal experiences my lessons because I think they help students understand and remember information. I appreciate multiculturalism and encourage students to discuss their own customs and views to the classroom. The advice I would give to English language learners is to watch English language television and movies that you like, listen to English language music, and play games such as Scrabble and crossword puzzles.
Everyone knows English is important and everyone wants to learn it well. I think that’s why you visit our website. There are two keys to mastering English – vocabulary and grammar. When it comes to a lot of English words and phrases, you just have to memorize them. I usually teach students some good ways to memorize them, like breaking down a word some meaningful small parts. In this way, students can understand why a word has such a meaning instead of memorizing them with mere repetition. Once you have vocabulary, next, you have to know how to make a sentence – you need grammar. I always teach students to understand the rules logically so that these rules can enter the long-term memory. With vocabulary and grammar, you need a good environment to practice in. While you are having a conversation with others, you must respond immediately. You don’t have plenty of time to think of which word to use or how to make a grammatically correct sentence. To be able to respond immediately, you need a lot of practice – with friends, with teachers, or even with yourself. At David’s, we provide you with such an environment, making you get used to this language. Rome wasn’t built in a day! Little by little, step by step, I believe you can make it!
