English is not a difficult language; you just need to understand its logic. Remember, you must study all the aspects at the same time, such as vocabularies, grammar, and expressions. One major difference between Chinese and English is that for Chinese, we ADD words to express “time”. But for English, we use the different tenses of verbs to express “time”, which is why we have verb forms like Past Tense and Present Perfect. Once you know them, it is time to implement them. How do you do that? Well, practice makes perfect! Don’t forget, you get what you paid for. (That means I want you to study outside of class!)
Learning English for the beginner
The very first place to start is with the alphabet. If you don’t
have a basic understanding of the alphabet learning the words will be tough. Learn how to pronounce each sound that each letter makes. Then learn how to combine several letters together and how the sounds work.
Once you have a solid understanding of the alphabet it is time to
move on to vocabulary words. Learning vocabulary words and what each word means is the easiest part of learning the English language. Start off with just words and five to ten words daily. It is important to carry the words with you wherever you go
and study them when you have free time.
After you have learned some words it is time to start in on the
grammar of the English language. Grammar takes time to learn, so do not rush it. Start off by learning what types of words there are and what they do. For instance it will be important to learn what nouns, verbs, and adverbs are. You will also learn about subjects and other parts of speech that make the English language fun to learn.
Speak without Fear
The biggest problem most people face in learning a new language is their own fear. They worry that they won’t say things correctly or that they will look stupid so they don’t talk at all. Don’t do this. The fastest way to learn anything is to do it – again and again until you get it right. Like anything, learning English requires practice. Don’t let a little fear stop you from getting what you want.
Use all of your Resources
Even if you study English at a language school it doesn’t mean you can’t learn outside of class. Using as many different sources, methods and tools as possible, will allow you to learn faster. There are many different ways you can improve your English, so don’t limit yourself to only one or two. The internet is a fantastic resource for virtually anything, but for the language learner it's perfect.
Surround Yourself with English
The absolute best way to learn English is to surround yourself with it. Take notes in English, put English books around your room, listen to English language radio broadcasts, watch English news, movies and television. Speak English with your friends whenever you can. The more English material that you have around you, the faster you will learn and the more likely it is that you will begin “thinking in English.”
Study As Often As Possible!
Only by studying things like grammar and vocabulary and doing exercises, can you really improve your knowledge of any language.
Nobody likes to hear their own voice on tape but like tests, it is good to compare your tapes from time to time. You may be so
impressed with the progress you are making that you may not mind
the sound of your voice as much.
I am a freshman in Yuan Ze University and I major in electric engineering. I started learning English when I was in elementary school. After about a decade of learning, I find the best way to learn English is by using it in your social life. In Taiwan, English is taught in a strange way which is not how we learn a language. That is the reason why I choose David's English Center because they teach English a in natural way, by speaking with people around you. It is a great experience learning English in David's English Center. Here they have the best teachers who knows exactly the mistakes students might make and correct them immediately. When I learn this way, the accurate usage come to me right the next time I say the word. Also, with more than ten years of teaching experience, teachers understand what students are trying to express, which is such an important point when students come to their teacher with questions. There are a lot of differences between Chinese and English, so sometimes there is no direct translation for every word. That's why I consider it a big problem for other foreign English teachers without enough experience to teach students with many questions. In David's English Center, they've got the best teachers and all you have to do is to learn as hard as possible.
